2022 International Day of Literacy

Every year on September 8, International Literacy Day is observed to raise awareness of the value of literacy.

In 1967, the inaugural International Literacy Day was observed.

Around the world, there are 771 million people who lack basic reading and writing skills, the majority of them are women.

According to UNESCO, literacy problems still exist. 

Over the years, there have been several themes included in the ceremonies on this day. 

 Everywhere in the world, people commemorate the day by promoting literacy.
